Group conflict
Introduction
Group conflict is the complex phenomenon wherein either intergroup or intragroup conflicts arise due to several reasons leading to severity and hindrance in working as well as growth of organization. Group conflicts may arise due to perceived discrimination, relationship clashes or work role ambiguity etc. It is basically hostilities between different groups.
Situation
Co-workers of the organization A has fallen in group conflict where the mentality of us versus them has build up. Employees are divided in two opposing groups. None of them wants to get along with other. They have made mindset of being rivals of each other. These two groups have different attitude, though process as well as behavior leading to conflict among them. Even, the employees are resistant to solve the problem. They don’t want to hear anything in favor of opposing group and wants to stick on their own perception about teverything. Supervisor and management are much aware of the condition but do not want to intervene.
Type of conflict-
Inter group Relationship conflict.
This conflict is stated as a relationship group conflict instead of task group conflict reason being there is clash of behavior, view, attitudes and personality trait among the employees which gave rise to two distinct opposing groups in the organization. Also, the conflict is not at individual level in a group but it is at group level wherein one group is formed against another group and there is clash of thoughts.
Cause of conflict-
Major causes behind this conflict include power of perception, competition for values resources, or social rewards like esteem and respect. Superiority, injustice, vulnerability, helplessness, distrust are few other factors adding up to conflict.
