Project Title
Strategies for Qantas Domestic XXXXXXXXXX
The problem or opportunity
(Introduce the key elements of the
project, including the cu
ent state
and targets)
Qantas is a dominant player in the Australian domestic airline industry,
however we continually strive to expand our market share and indeed
expand the overall market size where possible (i.e. influence customer
travel decisions/opportunities generally). We are developing our own
internal, confidential, comprehensive 3-year domestic strategic plan
which will be implemented in 2019, but seek assistance from an external
consultant with two key areas:
1. which domestic route or routes to focus on
2. how we might be able to identify, agree and leverage
innovative strategic partnerships (not other airlines) to grow
our market share, or even the
oader market size
The key issues
(Introduce any key challenges or
context that impact the project)
Although we have a significant marketing budget – it is not unlimited.
Target
(Identify any targets or desired
outcomes)
Although we will not be prescriptive and are open to ideas, our cu
ent
thinking is that we should maintain all our cu
ent domestic routes, but
identify 1-3 of those routes as the justifiable key focus of our marketing
udget. We expect that any new strategic partnerships would also focus
on those 1-3 routes. Further, we are endeavouring to be innovative and
market leading with our strategic partnerships – and secure partners
that are most likely to be able to deliver significant, measurable and
sustainable customer increases. We recognise that to be effective,
partnerships need to be win-win.

Assessment 1 and 2 of this subject work together to simulate the practice of professional
consulting. First, the consultant will undertake research, then, move to recommendations.
Therefore, this Research Report is undertaken, in order to provide the data necessary to
BIZ304_Assessment 1_ Report_M3 Page 2 of 7
undertake Assessment 2 – Recommendation Report.
Assessment 1 is in two parts.
Part A: This is where you outline your personal contribution and the activities you will lead.
We want to understand your individual inputs and how you are working in
collaboration with your team. You can update the forum in an iterative way (not all
at once) and the Learning Facilitator will be monitoring your progress.
Part B: This is the research phase of the consulting project. Therefore, it is called the
Research Report. The findings from your research report will form the basis from
which you will undertake Assessment 2.
Before attempting to develop Recommendations (Assessment 2), it is essential to fully
understand the objectives of the project, as well as to research both the organisation and its
industry. The aim being to:
establish a clear understanding of the needs of the Client
establish the project details
obtain the information necessary to develop justifiable, valuable, and innovative
ecommendations
A
ief from the Client will be given to students at the start of week 1. Students will read the
ief and prepare any questions that they would like to ask, to obtain further clarification.
Face-to-face students: will submit their group’s questions to the Learning Facilitator at the
end of week 2. That list of questions should be included as an
Appendix to your Assessment 1 submission. Students will ask their
questions of the Client in-person, in class, in week 3
Online students: will submit their group’s questions to the Learning Facilitator via
the discussion forum at the end of week 2. That list of questions
will be included as an Appendix to your Assessment 1 submission.
The Learning Facilitator will read the proposed questions of all
groups and select those to be asked of the Client. The list will be
placed on the discussion forum by the Learning Facilitator who will
provide the responses to those questions to the students in week
3.
The clarification questions you ask the Client are also your opportunity to make a good first
impression. This will assist the Learning Facilitator to assess your progress.
BIZ304_Assessment 1_ Report_M3 Page 3 of 7
In week 3 all groups will have the Client
ief and the Client’s responses to your questions.
You will then use accepted research theories and tools (such as those presented in modules
1 and 2) to frame your investigation and will collect both primary and secondary data.
Any contact with the Client (including emails) must first be approved by the Learning
Facilitator.
The assessment requires you to consider multiple perspectives, engaging and collaborating
with others in creative ways. This is a group task that requires you to apply your professional
competence in a team environment.
Instructions:
You are required for Part A to:
Regularly post your comments (identifying your specific contributions
oles to the
project) to the group discussion forum as activities evolve
Be clear about your personal involvement
You are required for Part B to:
Provide a professionally structured, written and presented document
Clearly state your understanding of the Client’s needs
Clearly define the project details and scope
Provide relevant organisational information utilising established research theory
and frameworks
Provide relevant industry information, utilising established research theory and
frameworks
Refer where appropriate to the coming Recommendation Report (clearly establish
the document is part of a two-phase project)
Submission Instructions:

y the end of week 6 (one submission per group). The facilitator will provide feedback via
