Hi,I just found a nifty trend that I can't seem to find a decent explanation for anywhere on the internet or in my textbooks. As the branched hydrocarbon comes closer to the first carbon of the main chain, the RON increases. For example,3-Ethyl-2-methylpentane has a RON 6.5 levels higher than that of 3-Ethyl-3-methylpentane. Any answers to why this is happening will be greatly appreciated.
