1.0 Background of Samsung Electronics
Samsung Electronics is a South Korea based electronic giant founded in the year 1969. Samsung specializes in producing a wide variety of electronic devices both for domestic consumers as well as for huge industries. Samsung cu

Samsung not only excels in producing electronic devices but is also an established player to manufacture electronic components such as semiconductors, chips, lithium-ion batteries and flash memory.
During the years 1969-1987 when Samsung Electronics was coming into existence it was established as an industrial part of the Samsung Group. As the group was not a as strong as other players in the market in terms of technology Samsung decided to cooperate with Japanese firms and established a Joint venture with Sanyo and Sumitomo Corporation named Samsung-Sanyo Electric. In the year 1970 Samsung joined hands with Japan’s NEC Corporation and the subsidiary was named Samsung-NEC. This subsidiary was established to manufacture audiovisual devices and home appliances. Samsung came into the semiconductor industry in the year 1974 after it acquired Korea Semiconductor.
In the year 1980 Samsung acquired another producer who produced electronic switching devices named Korean Telecommunications. By the year 1981 Samsung electronics was able to establish itself in the market. In the year 1988 Samsung Electric Industries merged with its subsidiaries to form Samsung Electronics. In the year 1988 Samsung came up with its first mobile phone which did not gain much popularity until 1990. The company then began to change its strategies in the mid 90s by investing into new technologies. Samsung then adopted the vertical integration strategy which proved to be extremely beneficial for the electronic manufacturer and led to the exponential growth of the electronic giant in the 2000s till date. The company has expanded so immensely that it has managed to gain a position at number 15 in the Fortune Global 500 list (Fortune Global, 2019).
