DISSERTATION PROPOSAL Post-Conflict Case Study in Sudan Introduction Involved in war for decades, Sudan has gradually become one of the world’s most ill-developed countries. After liberating from Sudan, the newly founded sovereign state of South Sudan, with its rich oil reserves have now become the primary target of attacks. The clash between Sudan and South Sudan has turned into a means of mass destruction of human life and natural resources. But recently there has been a development observed in the context of the conflict. Today, Sudan and South Sudan are going through a phase which is apparently a post-conflict one, but the trail of conflict has not been observed to be one that is going to end so quickly. The primary objective of this research paper would be elaborate on the post-conflict status of Sudan putting special emphasis on the implications of the conflict between the two states and the ways through which the conflict could have been mitigated. Aims and Objectives The primary aim of the research paper is to explore, analyze, interpret and then discuss about the conflict that has brought about disaster for both Sudan and South Sudan, and to ascertain the actual nature of the post-conflict phase through which both the countries are now going. The objective of the research paper would be to find answers to the following research questions: What did cause the conflict between Sudan and South Sudan? What have been the implications of the conflict? What strategies could have been taken to prevent the conflict? What is the actual nature of the post-conflict phase in Sudan and South Sudan? Review of Literature What did cause the conflict between Sudan and South Sudan? Putting much focus on the roots of conflicts in Africa and also in Sudan and South Sudan, in the article, “Beyond Greed and Grievance: Policy Lessons from Studies in the Political Economy of Armed Conflict,” Ballentine and Nitzschke XXXXXXXXXXhave emphasized the theory of rebellion and greed...

STATEMENT OF INTENT
Internal conflicts and especially armed conflicts should be considered menace to the
human society i
espective of the socio-economic or political status of the country to which
the society belong. The primary purpose of this research study would be to explore the nature
and outcome of the conflict that has deteriorated the socio-economic and political health of
two nations – Sudan and South Sudan. Africa has been a continent faced with civil wars and
armed feuds, and it has been observed that till date the governments of conflicting nations
have not found a solution to cu
the problem and to save the populace from utter distress.
Hence, the researcher intends to explore, analyze, and evaluate the nature of the outcome of
the conflict between Sudan and South Sudan to ascertain the real reason of such conflict, its
nature, and its negative implications. This research study would be putting much emphasis on
analyzing the implication of the conflict between Sudan and South Sudan from different
perspectives – social, economic, and political – so that a way to mitigate the problems can be
found out.
The conflict between Sudan and South Sudan has affected South Sudan mostly. The
country has not only lost its economic resources but its political vigor too. One of the major
negative consequences of the conflict had been the destruction of traditional agricultural
fields and other economic resources. Such destructions and devastations have triggered the
surge in the rate of u
anization. What the researcher intends is to find out the reason behind
such rise in the rate of u
anization in South Sudan and to find out the negative implications
of such a socio-economic process. The government of South Sudan is already inflicted with
economic and political burdens (apart from bearing the load of social and cultural
deteriorations) and the growth in the rate of u
anization has only amplified the existing
problems.
Initial research has revealed that u
anization, a direct outcome of the conflict
etween Sudan and South Sudan, has gradually become a problem for South Sudan, and this
is primarily because; South Sudan does not have the economic strength or political
infrastructure to manage a rise in the u
an population. Lack of economic and natural
esources and the depletion of the same (caused by extreme growth in u
anization) have put
the country’s wellbeing at stake. The researcher, hence, wants to find a solution to the
problem considering the humanitarian needs that have to be appeased through processes like
international mediation and intervention. U
anization has already proved itself to be a curse
on the society and economy of South Sudan, and the criminal acts that the process have
instigated have added to the political obscurities prevalent in the country. Hence, the
esearcher intends to first identify the negative social, economic, and political impacts of
u
anization in South Sudan and then to find out strategies by applying which the spread of
the menace can be prevented.
The researcher intends to contribute to the development of global understanding about
African issues among which the issue of conflict deserves special mention. Africa is a...
