Discussion 8: Film's social impact (LO1) (LO2) (LO3) (LO4) (LO5)

1. In two well-written and fully-developed paragraphs, discuss the two films you chose to watch in Week 8. Explore the following questions, with strong use of details from the film, evidence from the textbook, and support from your own outside research.

  • Identify the two films you watched along with relevant details such as the release date, director, main themes or topics. You may discuss the films concurrently or consecutively, and you may use a compare and contrast method if suitable.

  • What statement did each of these films attempt to make? Did it succeed at making its point, and if so, how? If not, why not?

  • What was the social impact or significance of the film? Do you think this film influenced society or culture in some meaningful way? Give some context to help your readers understand why the film was relevant at the time it came out.

  • Is the film still relevant, or has it lost its staying power over time? If the social issue that the film dealt with has been resolved or is no longer a burning issue, does the film still stand on its own as a powerful work of art in its own right? Support your answer.
