What was the director's intention with this film? Was the director successful in communicating a certain theme or emotion to the audience?

Alex Garland helms the sci-fi thriller movie “Ex Machina.” The protagonist of the tale is a young programmer named Caleb, who triumphs in a contest to spend a week at the exclusive house of the CEO of his business, Nathan. When Caleb arrives, he learns that he has been chosen to take part in a groundbreaking study using Ava, an AI humanoid. As the week goes on, Caleb is caught up in a complicated web of deceit and manipulation, raising issues about the actual nature of consciousness, humanity, and the lines separating humans from machines. "Ex Machina" explores artificial intelligence and its effects on human existence. The movie explores the moral and ethical conundrums raised by the development of sentient creatures as well as the effects of deity-play. The movie had a significant effect on me as a viewer, prompting me to reflect on the nature of consciousness and the hazy boundaries between truth and illusion. "Ex Machina challenges our perception of humanity and forces us to confront the existential questions that arise when artificial intelligence becomes indistinguishable from human consciousness," would be the thesis statement for this movie.
