After doing all of the essential activities for Week 4 (see below), answer the following questions:
1. In a single, well-developed paragraph – drawing on the textbook and the
Dunkirk
videos we watched – discuss the role of the musical score in the film Dunkirk. In your writing, make sure to answer the following questions:
a. What is the musical score for the film based on, and what function does this serve?
b. What audio illusion is used in the musical score for Dunkirk and how does it match the script of the film?
c. Watching the film clips and listening to the score, what emotions or feelings did you experience?
d. How did the music affect your experience?
2. Imagine yourself as the music director for a film about a day in your life. This is a movie with a traditional narrative arc: you are a character with goals, you face obstacles, you struggle and accomplish your goals. Make a 10-track soundtrack for the film. Explain why you chose each song. What's happening while the song is playing? For example, you are driving to work and listening to "Damn It Feels Good to be a Gangsta" by the Geto Boys and popularized in the movie Office Space. Watchthis clipto see what I'm talking about. Use what you've learned from the textbook about music in films to support your explanations.
