If we are comparing political, demographical and economical aspects of European settlers, we have to first understand from their point of view why they came to North America 
English Colonies
English settlers established their early colonies in the states of Virginia and Massachusetts and spread along the Atlantic coast. English were quite welcoming of immigrants, their settler’s demography included farmers, artists, and handymen and even convicted felons. This policy led up to 1.5 million total settlers by 1754 from a mere 1000 in 1627. They set up local governments and assemblies for tax implementation on themselves. In Virginia and Massachusetts tobacco rich lands were the major source of revenue alongside their other and ever so diverse economic ventures such as trade, fishing, wood and farming.
