  1. Define the problem–

State, in one or two sentences, what you see as the problem in the case.

Do NOT start stating background of the organization; do NOT summarize information from

the case. You must focus on a specific problem.

  1. Gather pertinent facts– list the facts that relateonlyto the problem statement.

This is your one chance to state facts from the case.

  1. Develop/propose alternative solutions– list all the ways that the problem could be dealt with in order to bring about a solution.

In other words, in this step, you are to simply list – NOT comment on – possible solutions to the problem, whether you agree with them or not. Give the options.

  1. Analyze/evaluate pros and cons of each alternative solution–

List each solution again. However this time, under each separate solution, list the pros and cons (pluses and minuses) of the solution.

  1. Make a decision and defend your choice– make a statement of your decision (one of

the previously stated alternative solutions), i.e., the alternative solution that emerges, based upon your analysis, as the best. This is your decision. State your reason(s) for choosing this alternative solution for implementation as your decision (in essence, back up your decision!)

6.Implementation and Feedback –

For this section, briefly outline how and when you would evaluate the results. This is

one or two sentences.

IMPORTANT: You must follow the steps above. Do NOT summarize the case. Do NOT do any outside research. Do NOT include personal experiences that are not covered in the case.

1. Problem identified in the case
As suggested in the case study, Apple watches failed to
ing sensation in the market on launch in comparison to the other Apple products. The product lacks the vision and does not fulfil the purpose of its launch. The product was developed with a promise of connectivity without constant staring at the screens of the phones.
2. Facts related to the problem
The battery life of the watch was poor. There was a lack of innovation in the watch. Brand ‘Apple’ is known for the launching of innovative products. The watch launched by the Apple is as common as the other smartwatches launched. The watch does not have any new features. The speed of watch was slow and functionality of it was limited. The connectivity of the watch was also very poor. It was not user-friendly. For some users, it took around three days to adapt to the functions of the watch. The screen was fuzzy and device lacked many famous as well as necessary apps. Initially, when the product was launched, it also lacked the GPS system.
Users found it difficult to configure the device personally. The device configured only with iPhone devices. Android smartphone users could not use this device. The cost of device was very high. The version of apps on device was very low. Many technical analysts found the device underdeveloped. The watch was dependent on the data on the iPhone users, without the presence of data; the worth of watch became ten times lower. It was aimed to attract mostly youth generation under the age of 30, and it was not popular among youth as aimed. The purpose of replacing the smartphone by the watch became a complete failure. The tactic engine used in the watch was supplied by one to two suppliers only.
Thus, it made the supply of the watch limited. The watch failed to impress technologically advanced consumers, as its features are ordinary. The watches were either too feminine in design or too ordinary like all other watches. The biggest challenge in front of the company is to give the justifiable reason to the buyers for buying the smartwatch apart from the iPhone. As mentioned in case study, the user of iPhones is not very enthusiastic about the smartwatches.
3. Alternative solutions
The market for the product of smartwatch is limited and confined to target selected population. The company has targeted either the youth, between the age of 15 and 30 years, in the name of innovation, or the women, as an accessory. There is a large number of population between 30-52 years, who are technologically advanced, using smartphones. The company must target all these people.
The smartwatches are not user friendly. This reduces their value and people think that spending time in configuration or learning the use is complete waste. The smartwatch must have simple features and easy synchronization with phones. The battery backup is very poor, which led the user to have equal dependency on the phone. Due to this, the vision of launching the product to reduce the dependency on phones became blu
ed. The tactic engine supplied by one of its suppliers was found to be defective. This tarnished the image of the product and limited the supply of the product in the market. Hence, it can be suggested that the number of suppliers must be increased in order to increase the productivity of the product.
The watch failed to attract the technologically advanced consumers due to its older versions of apps and unavailability of innovation as well as popular apps. Hence, it can be recommended that they would need to upgrade the smartwatch so that it can run apps with the quality like that of the smartphones. This app is not attracting large population. After going through series of software installation and personalization, it might become good for the usability of the buyers. This device is helpful to people, who continuously check the notification on the phone. Therefore, it must be made portable for all the users.
The product is made costly and thus, it is launched at high rate. Since the product does not justify its purchase to the consumers, its high cost makes reduction in its popularity amongst users. The cost of the product must be reduced to fit in everyone’s pocket. The slow speed of product becomes a drawback for the fitness freak. Therefore, it can be viewed that the implementation of swim trackers and health tracker might make them popular amongst fitness cautious people. The smartwatch is working only for iPhone users and not android users. The consumers using android devices are equally high as compared to iPhone users. Companies, whose watches are synced to all kinds of smartphones, are considered better and preferable.
4. Pros and cons of the alternative solutions
· Increasing the range of targeted population
Pros: Increase in targeted range from 15-30years to 15-52years would attract more consumers and increase the sales of the product.
Cons: Enthusiasm of young generation to buy the product in order to remain up-to-date becomes minimal because when product will be commonly used by older generation, it automatically lost its attraction among the youth.
· Products synchronization with android
Pros: When product will be able to connect with both iPhone users and Android users, it would increase its sales.
Cons: The uniqueness of the product will be lost. Apple is a
and and using the product is a symbol of the status. Availability of device for everyone would make the product very common to all.
· Implementation of innovation
Pros: Introduction of popular app in smartwatches would make it more popular among the users. The high quality of the app will reduce the dependency of the smartphone. Innovative ideas such as making device GPS-enabled and introduction of trackers like swim tracker or health tracker would make the device popular in both technologically advanced consumers and fitness freaks.
Cons: This step will not have any negative impact.
· Reducing the price of device
Pros: The targeted population involves youth of age between 15 and 25. This population is dependent upon parents or their pocket does not allow them to buy gadgets at very high rates. Thus, lowering the price allow young generation to easily buy the product.
Cons: Lowering the price of product will raise the concern of its quality. People will tend to think that quality is reduced to mitigate the price of product.
· Improving the battery backup
Pros: Improving the battery backup allows the consumers to use the product for long time. Thus, the dependency on the phone will reduce
Cons: This improvement may need to upgrade the product, which can increase the cost of the product and make it difficult for the company to attract the young generation or to provide high quality product at low rates.
5. Selection of best alternative solution
The aim of every organization is to rule the market. This can be done by increasing the sales of the product and by increasing the popularity of the product. The product can achieve the popularity only when it is unique in its market. The uniqueness can be achieved only by innovation and superior quality. Apple is one of the topmost
ands and to remain at that market position, it is necessary for them to make their smartwatch accessible among the users. This popularity and high sales can be achieved by making smartwatch active innovative and affordable. The introduction of new feature unique to the
and will make the product different from the rest of the products available in the market. The latest versions of the apps and presence of popular apps would reduce dependency on smartphones, thus, helping achieving the vision. The introduction of features such as trackers will attract health conscious people. Todays’ ratio of health conscious people is increasing, which will automatically increase the consumers.
6. Implementation and feedback
Upgrading the device with new and improved software will
ing innovation in the product. This will increase the popularity as a style statement, which ultimately attract people to buy it in large sum.
