Introduction
Conveying the information in a manner that the receiver interprets it accordingly is the process of communication or co
ectly a
eviated as an effective communication. Communication can be personal, non-personal, professional, business, ve
al, nonve
al, intra personal and interpersonal. Interpersonal communication is the process where the exchange of information takes place directly by the use of emotions or feelings and through ve
al and nonve
al messages. Likewise, it can also be interpreted as face-to-face communication.
The distinctive property of interpersonal communication that separates it from written communication is that, interpersonal communication specifies and can even modify the information that the speaker wants to convey based on factors such as language used, facial expressions, gestures, body language and tone of voice. An observer can easily misinterpret a positive message if conveyed with a negative interpersonal communication, especially when the observers are kids and children. Therefore, this assignment focuses on the use of interpersonal and written communication in child safeguarding.
Importance of Interpersonal and Written Communication
Berger (2016) mentioned that human life is a complex road with pit holes and communication is the gap filler. Interpersonal communication includes the transfer of information from the speaker or the conveyer to the observer or the receiver face to face. Therefore, there are several factors, which affect interpersonal communication such as the tone of voice, gestures, body language, emotions or feelings, tempo and much more depending upon every individual.
On the other hand, written communication uses the technique where the information is conveyed to the receiver by the means of a full-fledged written document such as a letter, postcard, banner, hoarding, pamphlet, fax, any digital document and pdfs. As mentioned by Roemer and Rundle-Thiele (2018), written communication is a typical means of communication as it may require a mediator in order for the written information to be transfe
ed. Depending upon that mediator relies the fate of the message to be transfe
ed. Likewise, interpersonal communication, written communication also has certain factors that influence and modify the actual version of the information to be transfe
ed.
According to Stephenson et al. (2019), the government of UK states that safeguarding the children means protecting them from any negative influence or abuse that may impair their health and development and simultaneously ensuring that they are being raised under the provision of a safe and effective care. Since, the age, at which children requires safeguarding is the age, at which they are most unresponsive towards parents therefore it becomes a challenge for the folks in order to teach their chid the difference between good and bad. As supported by Madan et al. (2017), parents and their child develop misunderstandings in their relation based on mode of communication used by the parents in order to transfer the beneficial information to the children.
It has been seen that children are highly reluctant to every view presented by parents and therefore, effective communication emerges out as the only solution to this. Parents or guardians try to convey a positive information using interpersonal communication but due to the reluctance from the child, it turns into anger and therefore, a negative impression imprints child’s
ain. van Duijvenvoorde et al. (2017) presented another view point that safeguarding a child with the use of interpersonal or written communication becomes a challenge in safeguarding children especially during the age groups 15-23 also called as adolescent and teenagers.
The Symbolic Nature of Communication
Communication is not only restricted to words and languages because if that would have been the case, animals could not communicate because they do not use words and have some specific languages. Albert (2019) supported this view by the interpretation that when language did not exits, people were still able to communicate and the means of...
