Introduction
Water is a key driver towards every process occu
ing in nature, besides it is also the key driver of economic and social development. However, just like any other natural resource potable water is of limited supply though, it is recyclable but sustainable use is mandatory in order to fulfill the cu
ent requirement. Numerous water management and conservation strategies have been adopted by the authorities not only at state or national level but also at international level. However, out of all these, an integrated approach has proven best for the sustainable water management.
Concept of Integration and its Importance in Sustainable Water Management
Integration is a simple term that means to combine or to put together all the elements and combine them into a whole. Sustainable water management is the process of using water efficiently and avoiding its wastage so that it can be preserved for the future generations also. Sustainable water management is a very wide concept within itself and this is because it not only includes sustainable use of water but also the conservation of water. Water conservation then further, comprises of various concepts and approaches at social, political and organizational level.
In order to eradicate this segregation and make sustainable water management process effective, ‘Global Water Partnership’ derived a term known as Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) (Pacific Institute, 2019). The IWRM is the process that promotes the coordinated development of water, land and related resources, which is done in order to maximize the resultant economic and social welfare in an equal manner that allows equal water rights to every individual without compromising the sustainability of other vital natural resources as well.
