Calculate the percent composition of sodium in sodium chloride.
Tom Yum soup contains 420 mg sodium and 30 mg potassium in
each 200 g serve. Calculate the total salt concentration (in mole
litre-1) of a cup of soup assuming that both the sodium and
potassium are added as chloride salts. What is the concentration
of chloride in gram per 100 mL?
Ans. formula for Sodium Chloride is NaCl
Atomic mass of Sodium (Na) = 22.99 g
Atomic mass of Chlorine (Cl) = 35.45
Thus molar mass of NaCl = 22.99 + 35.45 = 58.44 g
Molar mass of KCl = 74.55g
Volume of Soup = 200mL
Percentage composition of sodium (Na) in NaCl = (22.99/58.44)* 100 = 39.34%
22.999...
