He knows that you are pursuing a HNC in Business Management course. He requested you to provide him with background knowledge and understanding of business, the functions of an organisation and the wider business environments in which organisations operate. He requested you to examine the different types of organisations (including for profit and not for profit), their size and scope (for instance, micro, SME, transnational and global) and how they operate. You are also expected to explore the relationships that organisations have with their various stakeholders and how the wider external environments influence and shape business decisionmaking. Hence, you have researched organisational purposes of businesses, the national environment in which they operate and behave and the global factors that shape national business activities. You have also identified a UK business organisation (e.g. Tesco, Asda) to provide examples to substantiate your response where necessary. As a starting point, you decided to write a report to explain your neighbour the different types, size and scope of organisation (Task 1 and 2). Task 1: Explain the different types, size and scope of organisations (LO1: P1, P2 & M1) In order to achieve PASS in this task, you must answer the following: 1.1 Explain different types and purposes of organisations; public, private and voluntary sectors and legal structures (P XXXXXXXXXXExplain the size and scope of a range of different types of organisations (P2). In order to achieve MERIT in this task you must answer the following: 1.3 Analyse how the structure, size and scope of different organisations link to the business objectives and product and services offered by the organisation (M1). In order to achieve MERIT in this task you must answer the following: 2.2 Analyse the advantages and disadvantages of interrelationships between organisational functions and the impact that can have upon organisational structure with examples from your chosen organisation (M2). In order to achieve DISTINCTION in ASSIGNMENT 1, you must answer the following: 2.3 Provide a critical analysis of the complexities of different types of business structures and the interrelationships of the different organisational functions (D1). Introduction
While doing a business, in any country, it is very important to analyse the external environment of that country and how it can affect the business both positively and negatively. For example let’s look at the case of IKEA and the Indian rugs. In 2006, a case was published by Harvard along with a full document. Apparently, there were multiple suppliers in India who were using bonded child labour to manufacture carpets and some big American companies like Macy’s, Bloomingdales and IKEA were sourcing from them. Now child labour is banned in India, which makes it illegal, and sourcing illegally could have an impact on these companies in their home states. Now this external factor should have been analysed before placing orders with these companies, as now sourcing from somewhere else would become an issue for these companies. In this report, we are going to discuss some of these factors which can effect a firm and for doing this we have chosen the British firm Tesco.
