Assignment 1 (Individual Report) Different types, size and scope of organisations and interrelationship of the various functions within an organisation and how they link to organisational structure (LO1: P1, P2 & M1; LO2: P3 & M2 and D1) Scenario Your next door neighbour intends to open his own business in UK. He knows that you are pursuing a HNC in Business Management course. He requested you to provide him with background knowledge and understanding of business, the functions of an organisation and the wider business environments in which organisations operate. He requested you to examine the different types of organisations (including for profit and not for profit), their size and scope (for instance, micro, SME, transnational and global) and how they operate. You are also expected to explore the relationships that organisations have with their various stakeholders and how the wider external environments influence and shape business decisionmaking. Hence, you have researched organisational purposes of businesses, the national environment in which they operate and behave and the global factors that shape national business activities. You have also identified a UK business organisation (e.g. Tesco, Asda) to provide examples to substantiate your response where necessary. As a starting point, you decided to write a report to explain your neighbour the different types, size and scope of organisation (Task 1 and 2). Task 1: Explain the different types, size and scope of organisations (LO1: P1, P2 & M1) In order to achieve PASS in this task, you must answer the following: 1.1 Explain different types and purposes of organisations; public, private and voluntary sectors and legal structures (P XXXXXXXXXXExplain the size and scope of a range of different types of organisations (P2). In order to achieve MERIT in this task you must answer the following: 1.3 Analyse how the structure, size and scope of different organisations link to the business objectives and product and services offered by the organisation (M1). Task 2: Demonstrate the interrelationship of the various functions within an organisation and how they link to organisational structure (LO2: P3 & M2). In order to achieve PASS in this task, you must answer the following: 2.1 Explain the relationship between different organisational functions and how they link to organisational objectives and structure (P3). In order to achieve MERIT in this task you must answer the following: 2.2 Analyse the advantages and disadvantages of interrelationships between organisational functions and the impact that can have upon organisational structure with examples from your chosen organisation (M2). In order to achieve DISTINCTION in ASSIGNMENT 1, you must answer the following: 2.3 Provide a critical analysis of the complexities of different types of business structures and the interrelationships of the different organisational functions (D1). Guidelines for preparation and submission of Report:  This is not a group assignment, rather an individual report. So you should work independently in this assignment and submit an original piece of work.  Use appropriate report format with an introduction at the beginning, main body with headings and sub-headings and conclusion at the end.  A cover page, table of contents page, references list and bibliography would be at highest standard.  Your response to the questions need to be underpinned by module contents.  Please save your document with a unique name. You have outlined the key areas to be covered in your report below (Task 1 and 2). Task 1: Use contemporary examples to demonstrate both the positive and negative influence/impact the macro environment has on business operations (LO3: P4 & M3) In order to achieve PASS in this task, you must answer the following: 1.1 Identify the positive and negative impacts the macro environment has upon business operations, supported by specific examples (P4). In order to achieve MERIT in this task you must answer the following: 1.2 Apply appropriately the PESTLE model to support a detailed analysis of the macro environment within your selected organisation (M3). Task 2: Determine the internal strengths and weaknesses of specific businesses and explain their interrelationship with external macro factors (LO4: P5, P6 and M4 & D2) In order to achieve PASS in this task, you must answer the following: 2.1 Conduct internal and external analysis of your selected organisation in order to identify its strengths and weaknesses (P XXXXXXXXXXExplain how strengths and weaknesses you identified for your selected organisation in task 2.1 interrelate with external macro factors of the business environment it operates (P6). In order to achieve DISTINCTION in ASSIGNMENT 2, you must answer the following: 2.4 Critically evaluate the impacts that both macro and micro factors have upon business objectives and decision-making with examples from your selected organisation (D2). Evaluate/Critically Evaluate: Give your verdict as to what extent a statement or findings within a piece of research are true, or to what extent you agree with them. Provide evidence taken from a wide range of sources which both agree with and contradict an argument. Come to a final conclusion, basing your decision on what you judge to be the most important factors and justify how you have made your choice.
