Introduction
Death penalty is a form of punishment given to the criminals who have committed severe crimes. It existed in the United States since it became a country. In the present times, death penalty has been legalized in 31 states out of the 50 states in the United States. Various forms of murder, treason, airline hijacking, and so on are the varied crimes due to which the criminal is provided with death penalty. Death penalty is considered to be a most severe statement that can be administered to people who have committed crimes. The topic of death penalty has polarized several opinions and also has several moral and ethical issues associated with it. As stated by Ye, Sharag-Eldin, Spitzberg and Wu (2018) opinions of common people must be considered when it comes to analyzing the death policy in terms of pros and cons. This essay would elucidate the pros and cons of death penalty in the United States. The justices need to consider several moral and ethical standards to think extensively before administering a criminal for death penalty. The death punishment is the harsher punishment and is said to be the ultimate punishment. With the death penalty, the cycle of violence keeps going on as the criminal who has murdered someone is being killed by the punishment.
As per religious arguments, life is a gift that is given by the almighty and no human being has the right to take it away. It is mentioned in the Bible that one human being has no right to kill other human being under any circumstances. Death sentence is considered to be unusual and cruel. United States practices death penalty with certain limitations such as a mentally handicapped person cannot be executed and there could not be a death sentence against a juvenile. Though there is not much evidence that helps in proving the fact that crime rates have reduced in the United States due to death penalty, it can be stated that it creates a fear amongst the criminals so that they deter from committing heinous crimes. Without death penalty, certain crimes like rape and murder would be continuously increasing in the society. Many people are of the opinion that death penalty should be used as a dete
ence and is the only way through which crimes such as murders can be controlled. It can also be stated that with the help of death penalty, the US legal system is able to maximize justice. The goal is to use...
