Your course learning outcome for this week is to: Demonstrate the ability to apply theories to understand individual and group behavior within the context of social institutions. Your discussion prompts this week will help you meet this learning goal.
To begin: Theories are explanatory frameworks. In other words, in sociology, theories are used to help examine and make sense of some issue, topic or situation. When we take an issue, and then apply a theory to it, the theory tells us how to look at the issue. The theory will shape what we see, which will then shape how we think about and explain something. So for this forum, you'll want to review the following Crash Course video on Theory and Deviance. In your chapter, review section 7.2 and take notes on the theories of deviance. The section is still organized around the major paradigms of Functionalism, Conflict theory and Symbolic Interactionism, but you'll see that each major paradigm has specific theories of deviance associated with it (i.e. sociological ways of examining deviance).

To help you decide which theories to use - think about the scenarios. Does the scenario involve social interaction? If yes, choose a theory related to symbolic interactionism, because they will help you examine interactions. Does the scenario involve social structure and the organization of resources and opportunities? If yes, then this is a macro-level issue that needs a macro-level theory. Use a theory associated with functionalism or conflict theory.

Resocialization is the process of teaching a person new social norms, attitudes, and behaviours to aid the person's transition from one social position to another [1]. This may be done to help the individual move up in the social hierarchy. Resocialization may include both little and substantial shifts in behaviour, and it can be voluntary or involuntary depending on the circumstances. The process includes adapting to a new job or work environment, migrating to a foreign nation where you must acquire new traditions, attire, language, and eating habits, and even more significant types of change, such as becoming a father. The process extends from a new job or work environment to migrating to a foreign nation where you must acquire new traditions, attire, language, and eating habits. My experience with resocialization has covered two years from March 2020, when I started working as a volunteer at a senior care home during the covid time. This was the beginning of my journey toward recovery. During that period, I came to understand that the people who live there do not condone racism but, rather, treat everyone with respect and try their best to be of assistance to them.
To re socialize to new norms and traditions undoubtedly causes me stress, and I do my best to avoid being a part of such changes, but if they are for the greater good of society or benefit someone in some manner, then I am really delighted to be a part of this and I find myself at ease with it.
Covid-19 is having an influence on the way people all around the globe work, attend to school, comprehend their moral duties, look for enjoyment, and interact with everyone else in their society. This is causing a change in the culture of the world. In the event that a relative is in a critical condition, people do not want to go to their home to see them, and even in the event that a relative passes away, people do not travel to crematoriums due of the presence of Covid-19. People have the mistaken belief that they will get infected with Corona if they come in contact with Corona patients. As a result of the Corona epidemic, many activities, including working and learning, are now being conducted in the comfort of one's own home. Many nations are now experiencing the effects of the second and third waves. This pandemic has a high mortality rate.
The setting in which a kid is raised has a significant impact on the person that the child develops into as an adult. The culture maintains certain standards, values, mores, and ethics. It is assumed that a youngster would take on board the norms and values of society. Because the stability of a society is contingent on the influences that it exerts on its individuals, it is imperative that these standards and values be instilled in children from the very beginning of their formative years. Only then can a society hope to achieve its goals of being progressive and peaceful. A person will experience growth and encounter individuals from a variety of groups and backgrounds at each and every stage or phase of their life. These encounters come with a variety of distinct life lessons, all of which contribute to the formation of an individual's life. What a person is as an adult is a direct reflection of the influences that were present in his formative years. What a person learns throughout his life, beginning with his family which is the initial point of contact for the kid and continuing on through his peer groups and schools, shapes his ideas about life and the society in which he lives [2].
