1. Description of Chosen Topic
Contract cheating is term that was coined by ‘Thomas Lancaster’ and ‘Robert Clarke’ at the Birmingham City University. It is a form of plagiarism activity, in which students outsource the work allocated to them to some third party and then submit it by their own name. It is also a form of academic misconduct or academic dishonesty.
2. Review of Identified Paper Relevant to Topic
As mentioned by Bretag et al. (2018), students in cu
ent education system do not want to learn instead they just want good grades and are even ready to be indulged in academic misconduct by paying for it. The process of contract cheating also works in the similar manner where homework allocated to students is being outsourced to some third parties by the students. Those third parties complete the work in return for money and students submit that work by their own tag. Bretag et al. (2018) performed a study on the international students in Australian universities and showed that essay market though fo
idden, is still growing and the major reason identified behind this is student’s willingness to pay.
Target audience – For this study, 14,086 students representing 4.38% of total student population were taken from eight different Australian universities.
Study conducted - In their study, they conducted survey based on cu
ently available literature on the similar topic. They figured out an ‘outsourcing spectrum’ based on 7 distinct behaviours that are Bought, sold or traded notes, Provided assignment (for any reason), Cheating Obtained assignment (to submit), Provided exam assistance, Received exam assistance, Taken exam for another, and A
anged for another to take exam The first two behaviours included activities like trading and sharing and there were not refe
ed to as contract cheating but rest 5 activities were refe
ed as ‘cheating’ behaviours.
Methods – Students were simply asked questions if they have been involved in any of the 7 behaviours, if the response was yes then further questionnaire was done related to the nature, frequency of act, detection rates and penalties related to the behaviour. Further using a 5-point Likert scale, students were asked to show level of agreement towards the statements presented in context of seven behaviours. The...
