The theory of medicalization of deviance has been considered as a humanitarian approach
y many of the social scientists, medical practitioners, etc and according to this approach it is
etter not to only consider the punitive actions for deviants because deviance itself is a medical
and behavioral problem which must be treated through proper medication, rehabilitation, and
counseling. It is often considered as an optimistic approach as it tends to provide justice to the
deviants by
inging them under medical intervention rather than legal. It must be remembered
that this approach “extends the “sick role” to a range of deviants, thereby promoting acceptance”
(“Medicalization: Critique and Theoretical Meaning”, n.d.). Moreover, “It offers the possibility
of an end to some deviance through medicine” (“Medicalization: Critique and Theoretical
Meaning”, n.d.). And due to all these reason the theory of medicalization of deviance is often
considered as a noble one. But it must be noted that this approach towards treating the menace of
deviance is infused with some primary flaws. For an example, this theory tends to remove the
“notions of evil from discourse about deviance” (“Medicalization: Critique and Theoretical
Meaning”, n.d.), and as such, this theory tends to instigate the negation of morality and its basis
