Ans1 Acme uses six phase project management life cycle because it a product which is very technology intensive. Dividing such a project into six different phases helps to organise several activities better and makes it practical to lead it in the best possible direction. By dividing the entire Acme project into six different phases, the complete load of project is segmented into smaller and manageable components thus making it easier to spot any misses as well as control it.
1. Preliminary Planning
2. Detailed Planning
3. Execution and Design Selection
4. Prototyping
5. Testing and Buyoffs
6. Production
After the completion of each phase in the project life cycle pf Acme there is a gate by the virtue of which work done in the phase is reviewed. These meetings are called as gate review meeting and are formal in nature. Therefore, division of Acme project in these six phases is critical since it has demonstrated success to the business in the past.
As per PMBOK what doesn’t look like PMI's five process groups is that steps are further divided by Acme projects. For instance, according to PMI process usually project is divided into five groups like Initiation, Planning, Execution, Monitoring, Controlling and Closing (Project Management Guide. 2017).
