1) Making a choice between Bearden, Basquiat, and Colescott can be a tough one 
because; even though, among the artists, Bearden is my favorite, I must still confess that every 
one of them has excelled in their own domain and genre. In Bearden’s art one may find the 
reflection of the agonizing conditions of the African Americans who experienced the pain of 
discrimination and segregation (“Inside Scoop”, n.d.). But Bearden’s mode of depiction has 
primarily been collages. Basquiat, on the other hand, though have depicted the pathetic 
conditions of the African Americans, he has done so through his graffiti art (Jackets, n.d.). The 
oppression that the white-dominated society rendered on myriads of African-Americans has been 
the subject matter of many of Basquiat’s graffiti artworks (Jackets, n.d.). It can be interesting that
