No, the neglect of women’s corrections has not been benign. It is just an aspect which is 
ignored in prisons as there focus is only male centric. Hence, this is primarily due to lack of 
attention to the women inmates rather than due to any lax norms towards them. To some 
extent the focus on male offenders in justified considering their sheer number which make 
them the prime target of such initiatives. However, it is significant to realise that problems 
faced by women in prison are probably worse than those faced by the males and hence the 
former requires more guidance as compared to the latter.  This attitude comes with serious 
consequences as the women find themselves ill equipped to lead a normal life in the outside 
world. Additionally, there are issues related to substance abuse and also deterioration of 
physical and mental health. Besides, they are also sexual abuse victim and all these practices 
leave an adverse impact (Law Jrank, nd).
