Introduction
In recent times, South Korea has witnessed a number of social and economic changes. In the recent scenario of COVID 19, almost all the developed economies are facing the heat of the global turndown. The global markets are going down day by day and every economy is trying to protect the lives of their people and keep their economy stable. Lack of medical equipment to deal with the pandemic has also led to both political and financial instability.
South Korea is in the recent news regarding the pace of political change and the residents seem to be unhappy with such changes. This assignment deals with summarization and analysis of articles from one of the reputed publishers “The Economist” relating to the recent changes in the political scenario of the country.
Summary
In a special report dated 8th April 2020, it is mentioned that the South Korean women’s are fighting to be heard. The number of women in the total workforce has also increased. Around 70% of the women in the age group of 25-34 are employed and this is a great sign for the economy. Few decades back, the role of women in South Korea was mostly confined to doing household work, raising children and supporting men in a few activities. However, the scenario has changed now. Recently during the me-too movement, a number of women spoke out on being assaulted by their boss, which indicates that the trend has changed and women consider themselves no less than men consider themselves in South Korea. The aspirations of the women in South Korea has increased, due to which they are unable to meet the household expectations of the men (The Economist, 2020).
In another article, dated 8th April 2020, the articles mentioned that the South Koreans are really not very happy with the pace of political changes. Recently, a number of activities have raised their voice against the government and the youngsters are now trying to shake the base of politics in South Korea. In the past elections, most of the elected members aged more than 55. However, most of the voters aged between 19 and 39 years. Therefore, the presence of youth in South Korea has ignited the idea among the young leaders to enter politics (The Economist, 2020).
