The underlying report aims at exploring and identifying three database systems for a shoe merchant engage in providing and supplying shoes to the retail stores. The concerned merchant intends to develop a comprehensive database system support and facilitate him in keeping and maintaining financial records, employee records, inventory records, and other general business activities. In this regard, three database systems have been explored and outlined by the report and one database system is recommended to the shoe merchant. The recommendation will be made in light of costs involved in implementing the database, hardware and software components required for it, etc in order to foster an effective solution to the shoe merchant. Database can be understood in terms of collection of related pieces of data and information and storing and presenting it in a structured form. It can also be understood in terms of representing and restructuring the already existed stock of data and information. The purpose of database is to serve and facilitate decision making process in the business firm. The information storage and its structured presentation enable the strategic personnel of business firm in taking more reliable and fruitful decisions. In this regard, there are various kinds of database systems are explored and developed by the business firms at regular intervals to support and improve their decision making process (Drozdenko & Drake 2002).
The three database systems identified are hierarchical database system, network database system and relational database system.
