Write an eight to ten XXXXXXXXXXpage paper in which you:

1. Examine the technical advantages and disadvantages of using a hypervisor in an enterprise.

2. Compare and contrast the hypervisors from Microsoft (Hyper-V), VMware (ESXi), and Hitachi’s

(Virtage).

3. Evaluate the effect of hypervisors on the TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) in an enterprise.

4. Determine whether the implementation of hypervisors has an impact on system administration.

(i.e., Would system administrators need re-training?)

5. Use at least three (3) quality resources in this assignment.Note:Wikipedia and similar Websites

do not qualify as quality resources.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

?Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all

sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your

professor for any additional instructions.

?Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s

name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in

the required assignment page length.

Hypervisors as disruptive technology
A hypervisor is a kind of virtual machine management system which has the capability to
manage multiple operating systems, with each sharing the same hardware host. To the end user,
it looks that each operating system has full control over the host’s memory areas, processor and
all other resources. But in reality, the host’s resources are controlled by the hypervisor, with
intelligent allocation as and when needed. In many popular articles of recent times, the
hypervisor can be acclaimed as a disruptive technology and in fact as “the new foundation for
system software”. The Hypervisor is a hot area of research for the information technology
industry and academia OS research community.
A hypervisor is also known as virtual machine monitor (VMM). It is essentially a
combination of software, hardware and firmware that creates and runs virtual machines. A
computer on which a hypervisor runs one or more of its virtual machines is called as a host
machine. Each of these virtual machines is known as a guest machine. For each of the guest
operating system, the hypervisor showcases a virtual operating platform and is primarily engaged
in the management and execution of guest operating systems. Multiple instances of operating
systems and multiple types of operating systems are allowed to share the common hardware
esources (which have been virtualized under hypervisor environment).
The road to virtualization is open for any organization that is make this commitment in a
long run and is ready to work with technology partners who basically understand this thirst for
heterogeneous environments supporting open platforms and multiple hypervisor systems. The
use of hypervisor is a promise to new generation businesses to become more agile, tractable and
far more responsive to the needs of their customers, employees and business partners.

Benefits of hypervisor
As the industry grew with more happenings of company acquisitions, corporate mergers,
and single-vendor monopoly concerns and rising application specific needs, multiple hypervisor
environments started getting a high preference in companies. The adoption of more than one
platform under one roof
ings along a huge cost benefit as well as extreme infrastructure
challenges. A good deployment requires a balance between the two. A Virtualization system like
hypervisor yields the following advantages:
1. Optimal usage of resources: High resource usage can be achieved with the
hypervisor. The OS mechanisms like paging and dispatching can be used to
dynamically assign virtual resources (e.g. memory, processors etc.) to physical
esources. For most of the workload, the average needs are less than a fully
dedicated resource set up. Hypervisor allows dynamic sharing of physical
esources and resource pools, increasing resource usage levels. System’s price and
performance are improved greatly.
2. Centralized systems, operating environments and workloads: Company work
towards reduction of costs by combining multiple operating systems and
workloads onto one physical layer. It gets easy to test new versions of the
software on real-time physical environments without any effect on software
production cycle. Single system has the capability to accommodate multiple
operating systems and product releases.

3. Improved service: Workload resource allocation can be managed manually or in
an automated manner. In accordance to customer depends, IT service providers
can clone one virtual environment or even multiple systems in order to achieve
dynamic resource provisioning.
4. Improved lifecycle management: While solutions offered by one vendor are
vendor-agnostic, there are many benefits of implementing hypervisor from one
vendor on another vendor’s hardware. For instance, the Dell’s Lifecycle
Controller Integration v1.2 for Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager
Support imparts unbelievable OS configuration procedures, agent-free support
and updates from Dell servers.
5. Better governance in organizations: As the use of virtualized environment
increases, the improved services of IT department are promised in an unsaid
manner. The services of IT department can be directly accessed by users for
creating their own solutions and applications. Bringing up a good hypervisor
infrastructure is a challenge in itself, but once done, it can enables IT department
to control or limit use of resources, provisioning of IT requests, process workflow
enforcement and most importantly defining access control on users of the system
for the resources, features or applications.
Disadvantages of hypervisor
