2. The modern presidency is quite different from the presidency of the 1800s. Your textbook discusses this evolution of the presidential role over time.
a. Identify and thoroughly discuss the two different theories of presidential leadership.
b. Thoroughly explain WHY the presidency has changed so much over time
c. Evaluate whether, in your opinion, the change has been positive or negative for the United States.
3. Your textbook discusses the four factors that influence the effectiveness of individual presidents to lead the country.
a. Identify each of the four factors and, in your own words, briefly discuss how they influence the president’s ability to lead.
b. Choose one of the four factors and explain it in more depth. Show clearly how and why it affects presidents. Give an example from your own knowledge of either President Trump or President Obama’s terms in office that shows how that factor influenced his effectiveness
c. Using the case study of the Iraq invasion as a basis for your answer, explain why and how modern presidents have the most power to lead in the area of the use of military force.
4. Your textbook discusses the many and complex factors that influence judicial decision-making.
a. Identify the major categories of influences on judicial decisions.
b. Compare and contrast legal and political influences on justices.
c. Choose one influence and discuss it in-depth. Be sure to show your understanding of the term and explain clearly how it influences justices and what the limits might be of its influence.
