Abstract
The weakness in the performance of the macroeconomic aggregates of a country can be 
exacerbated on the basis of fiscal problems of state and corruption in the administration of the 
public sector. The paper discusses about the impact of corrupt activities in public sector of South 
Africa and other international economies which ultimately disturbs the economic growth and 
development over the period of time. It incorporates the factors affecting the instabilities and 
reduces the sustainable growth due to fiscal disincentives and economic problems.

As an evidence of scandals in countries around the world, there will be many challenges to be 
faced by the government to recoup with the fiscal and economic costs of corruption. Corruption 
in public offices is abuse of public assets for private gains would hamper the growth and 
development of the whole economy. The country will face problems in terms of fiscal 
disturbances and economic upheavals which will affect the government expenditures and GDP 
growth in the economy. Corruption would lead to corrosion of the social and macroeconomic 
stability by undermining the ethical trust in government through given standards to be 
maintained by the private citizens. In countries like South Africa, corruption will weaken the 
sustainable and inclusive driving forces which negatively affect the potential growth parameters 
such as equality in different sector growth, unemployment level, poverty rate, inflation rate, etc.
