You must be aware that currently there is an ongoing debate among economists and policy makers as to whether the stimulus package has been beneficial for the economy. Summarize some of the arguments from the popular press (such as the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Economist etc.) that are favorable as well as critical of the stimulus package. What is your opinion? Will you support another stimulus package? Why or why not?
In 2009, President Obama implemented a large fiscal stimulus package of $862 under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The funds were meant for use in repairing and building infrastructure in transportation, healthcare, science and technology, and education. Obama also argued for a modest tax cut for middle-income families who earn less than $250K per year. The push for these two proposals of spending and partial tax cuts was criticized by opponents in politics, academia, and business fields as they argued that the amount of spending was too large under government financing to balance the growing budget deficit and debt that might threaten future economic stability of the country.
