Socrates
Socrates was born in Athens. During this time democracy flourished along with power of people and their ideas. Yet people believed in gods, demigods and spirits. They considered themselves knowledgeable and were opinionated. Socrates taught that real knowledge is in one’s soul (Cowan, 2017). This knowledge is necessary to abandon materialistic ideas and to be spiritually awakened. He also felt good conversation is a reliable source to attain knowledge.
Additionally, Socrates was a Greek philosopher who was best known for his Greek philosophy and he even got the title of father of western philosophy. There was a famous quote given by Socrates and which is “an unexamined life is not worth living. The main purpose or motto of Socrates was that the person should know completely about themselves before speaking anything about them or saying before saying what they know and that is the reason Socrates often ask people questions like what is wisdom.  
Buddha
Buddha grew in a society, which followed Hinduism, and making sacrifices to these gods were prevalent. Society also had a divided caste system where shudras were deprived of their rights. Buddha abandoned everything to go to Himalayas and attain enlightenment.
