Using the floor plan below, calculate the heat loss in each room
and the building heating load. Use the following data:
Location: NYC, New York Indoor Design Temperature: 71 o F
Walls: 8 in. concrete block (density : 80 lbs/ft3 ), face brick,
core insulation, 1/2 in. dry wall, vapor barrier, and R-5
insulation
Windows: Double glazed, aluminum frame, 3/8 in. air space (All
windows are 3 ft - 6" high x 4 ft wide – Double hung)
Doors: 2" in. solid wood, 3 ft. wide x 7 ft. high Roof: 4 in.
lightweight concrete, flat roof, finished ceiling, ceiling height:
10 ft.
The building is constructed on a concrete slab with R-5 edge
insulation and has edge losses.
There is no mechanical ventilation. Include infiltration losses
using the crack length method.
Assume a reasonable piping and pickup allowance.
