Assignment
Choose any topic you are interested in—one that’s appropriate for the academic environment, of
course. After you have selected your topic, find something written about that topic in three places: 1)
on a government or university website, 2) in an article from a credible online newspaper, and 3) in an
article from a peer reviewed academic journal.
After familiarizing yourself with the material in each, record and upload a
ief video in which you cite
all three sources. Your citations need to share the author, the source, and something that establishes
the credibility of the article. In most instances, people do this by establishing the author or intuition’s
authority. Audiences want to know that they can trust a source that you cite in your speech—especially
if it’s unfamiliar. For example, people might be familiar with the Center for Disease Control, but does
everyone know if they can trust the National Post?
You can do these oral citations any way you want. That is, you can provide three individual oral
citations, one for each source, or you can create a paragraph of sorts that finds a way to pull them all
together in a pretend speech about the topic. Each citation should be part of a complete sentence.
Please provide a works cited page or a references page for the three sources.
Tips
If you are rusty on citations and introductory phrases, go back to the book. They have some very
helpful information on pages XXXXXXXXXXAlso, when deciding how to establish a source’s credibility, think
about the CRAAP test and what information helps to establish credibility. Often you need to do some
additional digging into these resources if you want to be thorough.
If you do not know how to find a peer reviewed article, I would suggest using the GBC’s electronic
databases. EBSCO, ProQuest, and JSTOR are the most popular.
Criteria for Evaluation
Do a thorough and conscientious job. I think most of us know what good and bad work looks like.
People who fulfill the absolute minimum requirements are doing C-level work. People who go above
and beyond the minimum requirements are doing better than that. At the very least, I should be able to

sentences.
