Topic A2 — Maintenance contract

You am to personally interview a professional engineer who is involved with a maintenance contract whose jurisdiction is an Australian court. (Note, that it must be engineering — any type - or something closely related to engineering. The food, hospitality, travel, employment, insurance, finance, retail etc industries are not permitted.) Choose an engineering project of substance, else you will not have enough to write on.
Give the following details:

Now address the following for the overall project:
1. Parties — Contractual links
Give a block diagram (by hand) showing the contractual links between the project parties, emphasising where the maintenance contract lies. (Think about the reader.)
2. Parties — Communication
On a second, similar block diagram (by hand), show the officially sanctioned communication channels between the project parties (not the grapevine or unofficial channels). (Think about the reader.)

Give a very brief summary of what comprises the total maintenance contract documents.

Look at the conditions of contract. Is it an industry standard, modified industry standard, bespoke, or non-existent. Give information on this.

Talk to the parties - what were the reasons for using that given in item 5 compared with alternatives.
7. Suitability
Comment on the suitability of that given in item 5 for the scope and parties outlined. Give reasons.
8. Unsuitability
Comment on the unsuitability of that given in item 5 for the scope and parties outlined. Give reasons.
9. Payment
How is total payment for work prescribed in the contract. How are progress payments prescribed in the contract?

Note. Many people in industry get terminology mixed up. When they call something 'A', they should be calling it 'if. Do not accept what you are told in an interview without doing further research. If you are told something that is not correct, you are to address this in your submission.
