Brief: You must deliver an reflective report in the form of an illustrated essay presentation.
Title: “The Landscape of Production Companies and Filmmaking in the UK”
Give a sub-title to your essay, depending on what areas of the landscape you choose to explore.
Length 1500 Words.
This essay must describe an aspect, or aspects of the cu
ent economic, political and business landscape of the film and/or TV industries in the UK. It must introduce critical dissection of what drives production and what pressures are put on the production industry by economic, political or other means.
Draw out arguments and explore both sides of the equation before drawing conclusions about what the aspects you have discussed mean for the future of production in film and TV in the UK.
Political and economic pressures might include such things such as
● Government strategy for the creative industries
● Brexit
● Austerity measures affecting the workforce
● Global up or downturns on advertising spending
Pick a sub-title from the options below or come up with your own, but this must be approved by a course tutor.
1. What are the potential benefits or pitfalls of Brexit on TV and/or Film production in the UK?
2. What would the effects of taking Channel 4 into private ownership be on the Broadcast Industry landscape of the UK?
3. How has government strategy for the creative industries affected film production in the UK in the last decade?
4. What factors have underpinned the economic basis for the growth of high-end TV drama in the UK and what are the implications for the future?
5. Why is the issue of diversity in UK film and TV (both offscreen and onscreen) so important and what are the arguments for diversity in industry?
These examples are not exhaustive and it is better to dissect one area in depth than try to cover everything
Your report should be CRITICAL. In this case, critical does NOT mean negative, but means "expressing or involving an analysis of the merits and faults of a work"
