This is an individual piece of work. You should be using the different methods of statistics we've used in class to find a solution to the hypothesis below;
To what extent is the following true: "The higher a country's GDP per capita the more silver medals won during the Olympics."
The dataset that you need for your work Dataset 1 is downloadable for you here:
Olympic Games Medal Tally-Olympic _Games_Medal _Tally.csv.csv
Dataset 2 for World Countries GDP per carita (in USD) - GDPper capita.csv.csv
Dataset 3 explains the abbreviations of each country is Olympic Country - Codes-Olympics_Country_Codes.cv.csv
Context of dataset
The three datasets are to provide a base to answer the hypothesis question above. Dataset 1 and 2 are essential to find the connection and solution to the hypothesis above. Dataset 3 is a supplement to Dataset 1 to provide names of the countries with abbreviations.
Where the Data is Obtained
The data is scrapped from www.olympedia.org which has the latest up to date olympic data set from 1896 Athene Summer Olympics to Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and from Wikipedia.com. Both these are available on kaggle.com site.
How to start and Use the Dataset
1. Download the datasets, sort and arrange them accordingly (country names, year etc)
2. Perform descriptive analytics (country names, medals won, GDP etc)
3. Perform further analysis (see coverage in class VAR, STDDEV, PROB etc) to find the answer to the relationship of the hypotheses
4. Discuss your methods and answers.
You will upload TWO documents- a word document and an excel sheet. The word document will be marked and the excel sheet will be used to reference your results discussed in the word document. Organisation and clearness of the answers will be considered when grading the assignment. Format doc is provided
