1. Food security, as defined by United Nations Committee on World Food Security, states that all the members of the general populace at all the times, ought to have physical, social as well as economic access to sufficient, safe as well as nutritious foods which is capable of meeting and satisfying the individual food choices and preferences as well as dietary needs for the purpose of leading an active and healthy life. Food insecurity can therefore be described as the hinderance to have physical, social as well as economic access to foods which are sufficient for the people, safe and hygienic as well as nutritious in nature. Food insecurity also suggests that the lack of the availability of food or the scarcity of food items will not be able to satisfy the needs and preferences of the people as well as the dietary needs that is important for staying active and healthy. There are a number of factors, such as changing global climate, rising global population, inflated food prices and so on which are leading to food insecurity.
2. The three aspects of food security as outlined by the World Health Organisation are availability, access and utilization or consumption. The aspect of food availability is extremely essential in terms of food security. Availability as described by the World Health Organisation is the presence of sufficient and adequate quantities of appropriate food. Without the proper availability of food, there will be an utter shortage of food, which will make it impossible for every person to gain access to it. Lack of availability of appropriate food will lead to hunger at a global level (Peace Corps, 2021). Access to food is extremely important for every individual across the globe. Access can be described as possessing the required financial and monetary stability as well as other essential resources for the purpose of gaining access to the food that is available to the people (Peace Corps, 2021). Availability and access are important aspects of food security, however, another important aspect is utilization or consumption. Utilization or consumption as described by the World Health Organisation states that there should be the capability of having the dietary intake as well as abso
