Respond to this post

Angus King, the independent senior Senator from Maine, is leading a group of lawmakers who support a bill to modernize public health data systems through the investment of 100 million dollars every year for the next five budgetary years. The money invested would be given out in the form of grants to public health departments. This money would improve data collection, analysis infrastructures, and accurate patient information. Allowing for a more rapid sharing of information to help protect and defend against diseases and other ailments. The current bill has the support of a bipartisan coalition of Senators.

The first concept I chose was bill due to this piece of legislation not being a law, meaning that it still has to advance through the committee stages of the house and senate before it could be sent to the president to sign. The constituency of Senator King also plays a large if not the most significant part of a members decision making, and with healthcare officials making up the second largest employment sector in Maine, it would suit him to help make their jobs more comfortable and more efficient through the spending of money on their industry. The bill also shows a pork belly project for Senator King due to the large number of healthcare workers in his state and while he is not up for reelection until 2024 working to make a constituencies lives better now will benefit him in the long run.
