Existing ABC Water Project:
Singapore’s National Water Agency called as Public Utilities Board (PUB), initiated Active,
Beautiful, Clean Waters (ABC Waters) plan in the year 2006. The main aim of this program is to
increase the quality of water and building up livability. As a part of this program canals,
eservoirs and rivers of Singapore have been changed to attractive relaxation areas where citizens
can certainly become representatives of water bodies. All over Singapore, 36 ABC Water
projects have been completed by PUB till June 2017.

an Redevelopment Authority (URA) in Singapore has set up Water bodies
Design Panel (WDP) in the year 1989. WDP provides assistance to the government by giving
advice on the construction and design of waterways. WDP is the first inter - agency body set by
the government to redevelop waterways.WDP also includes government bodies like the Drainage
Department, the Housing and Development Board (HOB), some private organization
epresentatives and Public Works Department (PWD).
After successful operation for a period of 10 years, WDP started to decline. Later in
the year 2001, PUB was reorganized as Singapore’s National Water Authority giving water
supply to the whole country and maintaining drainage and sewage. Hence, PUB has put forward
to redevelop ABC Water Program. In 2007, PUB inaugurated ABC Waters Exhibition to make
public aware of the program. As a part of this exhibition, some plans of more than 20
forthcoming projects were exhibited.
During the same time, three projects were developed by PUB to show the
effectiveness of the program. These include Kolem Ayer, Bedok Reservoir and Mac Ritchie
Reservoir.
The biggest park Bishan - Ang Mo Kio Park is set up in 1988, and was re build again in between
2009 and 2011 under ABC Water Program scheme. It is constructed over 62 hectares along the
way from Ang Mokio Avenue to Upper Thomson Road and Bishan Road. A remarkable feature
of this park is the natural river flowing through it in a curvy path. Kallang River which was
situated at the edge of the park was transformed originally from a concreted canal. With low
water level, people can get into the beauty of the calm river banks and during heavy down pour,
the land next to river bank acts as transporting channel and passes excess of water.
Another recreational activity under ABC Water scheme was Bedok Reservoir. This scheme also
