Collins v. Mckinsey
           Randall Collins examines the limits of human rationality and sociological theories of religion, showing how they open a general theory of social rituals that hold the key to much of the rest of sociology. Religion relies heavily on emotional processes that evoke trust and a sense of belonging. In essence, these are components of society. Social contracts are a traditional explanation of the basis of cooperation in society. Collins argued that irrationality is the foundation of society because of the free-rider problem, the contractual nature of society, and the limits of rationality. Contrary to common belief, humans are not particularly rational. Therefore, during the formation of society, they do not use rational principles.
In the article, it has been said that “Mid-century, democratic management empowered ordinary workers and disempowered elite executives, so that a bad CEO could do little to harm a company and a good one little to help it. Today, top executives boast immense powers of command—and, as a result, capture virtually all of management’s economic returns” (the Atlantic, Markovits). It is controlling the power dynamics between the CEO and the worker.  In chapter three of Randall Collin’s Sociological Insight, the author explained how some forms of power are more effective than others. He asserted that the key to achieving power is most effective in acknowledging occasional concessions and knowing when to "surrender to less important things”. It can be said that the system of power has always been the dominant force in our society. It is most of what connects society. Without them, there would not have been a civilized society as we know it. The functions of the power range from crime control to more mundane aspects such as being allowed to serve guests in restaurants. The concept of power is barely visible until further analysis. We take it for granted as we simply recognize it as. But with so many complex forces, hasn't been seen yet. The article also explained how a CEO makes 300 times more than a worker.
