Most people feel a need to conform in their social interactions hence deviating from their prior social norms. In that case, this paper examines the reason why people feel there is a need to conform even when they do not want to do so. Additionally, it evaluates how social institutions play a role in encouraging social conformity and deviance and finally reviews ‘Solomon Asch’s Conformity Experiment’ describing why individuals in the experiment gave the same wrong answers even when they knew it was wrong.
