QUESTION HELP
(a) Describe and explain with sketches the process of longshore drift. Describe what happens to a beach when a wall is built that obstructs the longshore drift.
(b) Describe the factors that affect whether sediment is eroded, transported or deposited by flowing water and explain how each factor influences erosion, transport and deposition processes.
(c) The most geologically active areas of the earth’s surface are tectonic plate boundaries. Describe ‘boundary hazards’ occurring in these areas and explain how geological processes in these areas may affect engineering projects.
(d) Distinguish between the process of erosion and the process of weathering, explain factors that influence the rate of weathering and erosion, describe examples of these processes and explain the role played by weathering and erosion in the ‘rock cycle’.

QUESTION HELP

(a) Describe and explain with sketches the process of longshore drift. Describe what
happens to a beach when a wall is built that obstructs the longshore drift.

(b) Describe the factors that affect whether sediment is eroded, transported or
deposited by flowing water and explain how each factor influences erosion,
transport and deposition processes.

(c) The most geologically active areas of the earth’s surface are tectonic plate
oundaries. Describe ‘boundary hazards’ occu
ing in these areas and explain how
geological processes in these areas may affect engineering projects.

(d) Distinguish between the process of erosion and the process of weathering, explain
factors that influence the rate of weathering and erosion, describe examples of
these processes and explain the role played by weathering and erosion in the ‘rock
cycle’.

Answer)

a) Long shore drift is transportation of sediments consisting of sand and gravel
along a coast at an angle with respect to the shoreline. This occurs due to
direction of wind, swash and backwash. This longshore drift is weak cu
ents
which ca
ies large amount of sediments down the shoreline.

If wall is built the waves are reflected back and this cause erosion at the base of the base
of the sea wall.

) The factor that effect the whether sediment is eroded, transported or deposited
and their influence are as follows:

Slope or...
