Question Help 1 A two-storey office building is shown below. The floor slab and the roof slab are 150mm thick reinforced concrete. The ground floor is used as retaining space and the second floor is used as office space. Both roofs are designed as wafficable roofs. The beam has a uniform rectangular cross section of 400«600mm. Beams are supported by square columns of side 400 mm. a) Calculate the loads carried by the beams BC, CF and DE b) Calculate the column loads at AB, HC and GF —— Unit = mm — — ee sy SS | eet se] — FE ac “ts a — | -~ enn = _— a } ic. ee Se el - l + | ——_B pon ee —— i? + [= | SS ee ual = al yo a Ps a . Addition Information Required Ground floor retaining space — Live load = 5.0 kN/m? Second floor office space — Live load = 3.0 kN/m2 Please see attached worked examples Question Help 2 The beam below carries a total dead load of 10 kKN/m and a live load of 8 KN/m. Draw the shear force and bending moment for the beam (simple-end support condition). Question Help 1

Addition Information Required

Ground floor retaining space → Live load = 5.0 kN/
Second floor office space → Live load = 3.0 kN/

Please see attached worked examples

For Ground Floor

Thickness of the slab=0.15m
Dead load=24*0.15
=3.6 kN/m2

Live load on ground Floor=5 kN/m2
Design Load=1.2*3.6+1.5*5
=4.32+6.5
=11.82kN/m2

Effective Depth of Beam=600-150

=450 mm
=0.45 m

Cross section of beam=0.45*0.4
=0.18 m2

Self weight Of beam=24*0.18
=4.32 kN/m

UDL from slab (dead) load=(3.6)*6/3
=7.2 kN/m

Total dead load on intermediate beam=

2*7.2+4.32
=18.72 kN/m

UDL on slab due to Live Load
=5*6/3
=10 kN/m

Live load on beam due to two adjacent slab=2*10
=20 kN/m

Design Load on Beam=1.2*18.72+1.5*20
=22.46+30
=52.46 kN/m

For Second Floor

Thickness of the slab=0.15m
Dead load=24*0.15
=3.6 kN/m2

Live load on ground Floor=3 kN/m2
Design Load=1.2*3.6+1.5*3
=4.32+4.5
=8.82kN/m2

Effective Depth of Beam=600-150

=450 mm
=0.45 m

Cross section of beam=0.45*0.4
=0.18 m2

Self weight Of beam=24*0.18
=4.32 kN/m

UDL from slab (dead) load=(3.6)*6/3
=7.2 kN/m

Total dead load on intermediate beam=

2*7.2+4.32
=18.72 kN/m

UDL on slab due to Live Load
=3*6/3
=6 kN/m

Live load on beam due to two adjacent slab=2*6
=12 kN/m

Design Load on Beam=1.2*18.72+1.5*12
=22.46+18
=40.46 kN/m
