The educational landscape of prekindergarten schools has changed a great deal to reach the
present form we see. On top of this, it is an ever changing process and numerous researches and
models tend to have greater impact on this. The idea behind the researches is to make continuous
improvements in the education system so that the schools can produce children with such
competencies which are relevant in the present scenario.
There are a number of models of classroom engagement which show different kinds of child
outcomes. Free play being one of the most popular classroom engagements has mixed opinions.
Every classroom engagement has its pros and cons but we should opt for the one which has more
pros than cons. The children who are provided good opportunities for exploration and free play
tend to have more advanced mathematics, developed language skills and spatial skills (Johnson
et al., 1987).
On the other hand, children following the instructional model have greater gains in terms of basic
academic skills. They might be good at letters, numbers and knowing how to write their names.
While children following scaffolding have developed problem-solving skills (Rogoff, 1990) or
literacy skills (Henderson et al., 2002). Thus, every model has its own advantages and these all
