The village named Sand Creek spread across for almost 800 miles, inhabited by the Indians thriving in the South east Colorado. There was a local chief who had been approached by the army of the United States. It was because he was seeker for giving protection to his people. It was not until November 28 in the year 1864 that he assured his people that should not feel threatened by anything. Since Sand Creek had been offered to Cheyennes in consideration of the 1851 treaty It was in the morning of November 29 when Colorado volunteers a group appeared out of nowhere and surrounded Sand Creek. Black Kettle wanted to perceive the situation so it raised an American Flag as sing of their friendship. However, it was their commander named John Chivington who paid no heed to the signal and started killing the people. The butchering ensued as soon as the troops pounced on the village and almost 400 people were massacred, which also had women and children.
