☒ Format / Layout of Assessment
Written Reports are part of the bigger International Tourism Project, which must be completed by all students in the style of a consultant report to management with the purpose to open a new International tourism destination. The International Tourism Project can be developed in accordance with your interests, background and ability to obtain sources. This assignment simulates the situation where you must act as a consultant for a company involved in international tourism business (hotel, airline, travel agent, tour operator, cruise line, etc.). For this purpose, Australia is the TGR (Tourism Generating Region). Choose a TDR (Tourism Destination Region) for Australian tourists. It could be a cu
ent TDR in which you propose some improvements or expansion of cu
ent tourism products, or it could be some new destination not normally promoted to Australian Tourists.
1. You must choose one Tourism Industry Sector in the TDR and critically analyse its international tourism-related potential;
2. Identify how it could be improved/developed. E.g. Could a chosen hotel chain develop more budget options of hotels in expensive destinations (such as Singapore) for Australian Tourists? Could there be cheaper cruising options with English Speaking Staff on the Lena River in Siberia for Australian Travellers?
3. Propose a new/existing product destination/activity/market to be established, improved or developed
4. Substantiate the viability of your proposal through research (E.g. Site visits and interviews are encouraged, subject to ethics approval)
5. Prepare a written report (3,000 words, excluding references and appendices)
The purpose of Written Report is to critically analyse, evaluate and identify the potential of new tourism destination, using material from the course and data from the real company and published sources. Masters-level students should demonstrate a high level of personal autonomy in planning and executing a substantial research-based project. The Report must be well researched (based on relevant and reliable sources) and written in an academic style, approx. 3,000 words in length. Students may follow the format for footnotes. Be particularly careful to avoid plagiarism that is, passing other people’s work off as your own (academic theft). Penalties for plagiarism are heavy and may include failure in the course. The four main criteria for success:
1. Insight – The report should demonstrate an in-depth understanding of tourism organisation, its services and issues;
2. Substantiation - The report should be underpinned by course material and additional readings around the topics chosen and research tools employed;
3. Recommendation – Students’ work must provide critical evaluation into and recommendations for a particular international tourism product; 4. Clarity and structure – The report should be well structured and clearly presented.

Introduction
International tourism is identified as the tourism activity that is conducted across the domestic borders of a country. International tourism has become popular due to the globalization which enables individuals to move freely from one country to another and explore the most beautiful places in the world. The cu
ent assignment is basically a consultant report that is presented to the management of a tourism organization that is engaged in the hotel business and aims to open up a new international tourism destination which is Pokhara in the country of Nepal. The Tourism Generating Region (TGR) for the present scenario in Australia while the Tourist Destination Region (TDR) in this assignment is the Pokhara which is situated in Nepal. The project will focus on developing and marketing of the identified tourism destination for the Australia tourists. Thus, the report will enable the tourist organization and the specific sector of the tourism industry to recognize the potential opportunities that are present in the chosen tourist destination region with reference to international travel and tourism.
TGR and TDR
The TGR and the TDR are considered to be the essential elements within an international tourism policy. The Tourist Generating region (TGR) is identified as the
eeding market for the tourism which acts as a practical ‘push’ force for stimulating and motivating the travel activities in a specific region like Australia and other countries. The TGR provides the tourists the required information about the tourist destination and undertakes associated activities like the timely reservation of the travelers and their subsequent departure and a
ival in the selected tourism destination (Wachowiak, 2016). Thus, the TGR mainly deals with the demand aspect of the travel and tourism sector. On the other hand, the Tourism Destination Region (TDR) is considered as the sharp end of the tourism that includes the pull force of the tourist destination and it helps in activating the entire system of tourism apart from the demand aspect in the Tourism generating region. Further, it has also been observed that it is the TDR wherein the most dramatic and noticeable actions occur in the tourism system of the chosen location. Effective management and planning strategies are required to be implemented in the selected region in order to reduce the adverse impact of tourism destination (Acharya & Halpenny, 2013).
In this report, the tourism generating region that has been selected is Australia. And the tourism destination region that has been selected is Pokhara, Nepal. The tourists will be coming from Australia. As there exist various kinds of tourist segment which have been categorized by different authors and researchers. These segments segregate the tourists on the basis of their experience desires, their travel preferences, whether they like to drive on their own, whether they want to travel with the driver, the places the where they want to eat food, the kind of food they want to have, the accommodation of their preferences, etc. (Durna, et. al., 2015). Hence, in order to design an appropriate travel plan, there is a requirement of considering all these factors so that the efficiency of the plan can be improved. As a consultant for the tour operator company, we will be discussing the various point that can affect the tourists and the ways by which we can enhance their experience.
Pokhara is a city in Nepal. In terms of population, Pokhara is the second largest (after Kathmandu) in Nepal. It is located 200 kilometers in the west direction from Kathmandu. There exist Annapurna range, in which 3 out 10 highest mountains of the world are present, that is, Dhaulagiri, Annapurna I, and Manaslu. It is because of the presence of these mountains, Pokhara is one of the best destinations for the trekkers. It is also the place for Gorkha soldiers. Pokhara is considered as the country’s tourism capital. It is also one of the favorite spots for the adventure lovers.

In this report, the first model that we will be using is of Eric Cohen and Volen Smith. According to that model, there exist seven types of tourists (Nash & Smith, 1991). The first type is an explorer. These are the kind of tourists who are very limited in terms of number and chose a traveling spot in such a way that it can fulfill their urge of discovering something new and they can involve with the local people. These people travel so that they can take a
eak from their regular lifestyle. Their motive is to try the tradition of the locals where they are traveling. The second type of tourists is elite. These are the people who want to travel with full luxury. For them, money is not a problem at all. they prefer exotic locations for their vacations. They want best in class hotels for their accommodations, and food. Their entire vacation is tailor-made and pre-planned. The third type of travelers is off-beat. They are the one who just wanted a getaway. Sometimes they do not even plan their trip and locations. They just pack their backpack and leave. These people are looking for places which are not crowded. The fourth type of travelers is unusual. These people have...
