In The Myth of the Latin Woman” by Judith Ortiz Cofer the author makes usage of the first person voice which is functional in rendering immediacy as well as credibility to her writing.  When the author says “I was earning some graduate credits….” It actually transports the readers to that spatial sphere where they get to relive the experience due to the occurrence of a primary source code. For it is safe in the knowledge concerning this person knows what she is talking about. It is exactly how Cofer goes on to recount her ignominious agonizing pain that she and women of her descent are subjected to due to the stereotypes. This is clearly implied through her sayings,
“Mixed cultural signals …. Hispanic woman as the “Hot Tamale”  .. media have found easy to promote.”
The first person narrative clearly captures the cultural clash that persists in between American and Latin women which would otherwise have not been possible as the reader feel that the injustice that is meted out to the Latin women due to the racist aspect. 
The adjectives that comes to my after having read the essay are “ignominy” and “assimilation” since it relates to the cultures.
