2) Explain how you determined the timing of activities and the total float.
The timings of the activities are calculated by using forward and backward pass.
ï‚· Earliest Start Time : The network logic states that any activity cannot proceed unless and until the previous activity is
completed. Therefore, the earliest start time is the starting time of an event. It is symbolized as Ej. The earliest start time of the
first activity in a process will always be equal to zero.
ï‚· Earliest Finish Time : It is the summation of the earliest event time of the activity and the duration of that activity. It is the
earliest completion possible time of an activity. It is symbolized as Ej. If under certain conditions two or more activities are
merging at one node only, then the maximum time amongst those activities are taken into consideration.
ï‚· Latest Start time: It is calculated by subtracting the latest finishing time and the duration of the activity. It is the latest of the
possible time at which an activity can be started. It is denoted as Li. It should be noted that at the end of the activity Lj and Ej
would always be equal. And in certain cases, where two or more activities are converging, the minimum of the times is taken.
ï‚· Latest Finish time: It is the latest event time of the head event. It is denoted as Lj.
ï‚· Total Float: It is the excess of available times over its duration. Therefore, a delay in the project completion time cannot occur
due to its duration. Total float is calculated by subtracting the earliest event time of the tail from the latest event time of the
head.

3) Explain how you determined the project duration and the critical path.
Critical path analysis is one of the important tools in planning, scheduling and coordinating the activities of a large scale project. The
critical path is the longest path in the diagram. The critical path is calculated by way of backward pass and forward pass of the earliest and
latest times. The activities which have their earliest finish time equal to the latest finish times are known as the critical activities, it also
includes the activities whose total float is zero. The activities in the above table are marked as critical and non critical based on this
criterion.
Critical path is A – F – G – H – I – K – L – M – N – O – P – Q
Duration of project is calculated by adding the durations of these activities i.e.
4days + 9days + 13days + 8days + 7days + 8days +13days + 9days + 4days + 4days + 9days + 5days = 93 days.
The critical path is...
