Carry out laboratory investigations and draw conclusions from experimental data on materials and present clear reports on the results and conclusions Assignment Objective The fundamental objectives of this assignment is to demonstrate the student ability to learn in the laboratory context by seeing a problem and seeking ways to solve it, Understanding data and formulating generalizations, developing imagination and creativity, and learning manipulative and technical skills to use the equipment. Also, through Lab project students will learn how to deal with real-world issues with which they may be faced. Case will increase student’s motivation and interest in a subject. This allows the application of theoretical concepts to be demonstrated, thus bridging the gap between theory and practice, encourage active learning.Assignment Task (100 Mark) The task is that there are two concrete mixtures, the first one is normal concrete (NC) which consists of powder (cement), water, coarse aggregate and fine aggregate. the second mix is fly ash concrete (FC) which consists of powder (90% cement+ 10% fly ash), water, coarse aggregate and fine aggregate. Six experiments are used to evaluate the performance of aforementioned mixes. Use British Standard for mix design. Each student is required to write an extensive laboratory report based on experiment lab manuals and data provided by the module leader in separated document. Report should cover all six experiments to evaluate the performance of the two mixes: 1. slump test 2. compressive strength test 3. Flexural strength test. 4. hardened density test 5. moisture content test 6. rebound hammer test Please keep in mind following facts while writing your report: The report is often used to present, analyze and summarize your data. You will find in the following some basic instructions on how to prepare the laboratory report. Report Format  The size limit: Normally, contain your report in 4-10 pages of written text plus additional pages for Figures (index).  Follow specified spacing. Generally use 1.5 x line spacing unless advised.  Start with the title page (including your name) or student number as requested.  Include your own field sketches or photographs. It is generally better to position figures within the text rather than group them at the end of the report.  Give a sequential number to all figures (Fig. 1, Fig. 2, Fig. 3, etc.)  Add a brief, informative caption to the figures. Sections of the Report The Report should contain the following sections:  Introduction  Methodology
ï‚· Result analysis ï‚· Discussion of results ï‚· Conclusions ï‚· References 1. Introduction (maximum 2 page) ï‚· Depending on the project selected give brief history and theory on that topic. ï‚· Discuss general material classification, factors affecting the selection process. ï‚· How has the work been done (using the lab test, name your tests) ï‚· Give the general plan of the report (e.g. how do you collect your sample and what will you do to discuss these properties). ï‚· Objectives should be mentioned clearly. 2. Methodology (maximum 3 page) ï‚· Discuss the properties of the selected material (e.g. for concrete material) ï‚· The tests to check the properties. ï‚· Explain how the material will effect in terms of performance. ï‚· What were the procedures to perform any test and aim of this test? ï‚· Procedures for mix design etc 3. Results analysis (maximum 2 page) ï‚· The results you get from excel file and analysis for those results. 4. Result Discussion (maximum 1 page) Discuss the results/ data in detail with giving your justification about the behavior of mixes and it is better to be supported by previous studies. 5. Conclusions (maximum half page) State briefly what are the major achievements of your work? 6. References Use CU Harvard referencing system as per our college rules and at least ten references are required. 7. Appendix Any additional figures, tables, and photos should be included here.

Rules & Regulations:  All resources should be cited using CU Harvard style.  The final assignment must have a Title page, Table of Contents, References/ bibliography using CU Harvard Style and page numbers.  Title Page must have Assignment Name, Module name, Session, your name, ID, and the name of the faculty.  Softcopy in word format is to be submitted through Turnitin link on Moodle. Introduction
In this report, there is discussed about the six laboratory experiment of two concrete mixtures. In first case, there is normal concrete which consist the cement, water, coarse aggregate and fine aggregate. The second mixture contains fly ash concrete with the mixture of powder, coarse aggregate, fine aggregate and water content. The material is classified as per types and class, this includes fine aggregate and coarse aggregate material. The mixture of concrete includes power (cement) classified in mainly six types includes ordinary Portland cement, blended cement, type 2 &3, type V and class G. there are significant factor affect for selection of material, this includes strength, durability, workability, ease to transportation, permeability, fire resistance and aesthetics of material.
In this report, there is mainly six laboratory experiment conduct in order to test the concrete material suitability for construction. This includes slump test, hardened concrete test i.e.
1. slump test
2. Compressive strength test
3. Flexural strength test
4. Hardened density test
5. Moisture content test
6. Rebound hammer test.
Methodology
1. Slump test:
The concrete mixture such as cement, water, fly ash and aggregate mixture prepared. In this test, the slump cone, steel tamping rod, trowel, measure tool and tamping rod uses. Initially, it is require preparing cone with 300 mm height with 200 mm bottom cone and 100 mm diameter for upper cone. The following figure provides a

As shown in above figure, the first layer of concrete is require to keep fresh into cone and tamp it 25 strikes using steel rod. Similarly, the second and third layer requires filling with the fresh concrete (Hussein, A., 2020). This way, three layers is prepare in order to develop concrete mixture. In this way, it is require calculating range from top concrete layer to bottom concrete layer of cone through measuring tool as shown in following figure. The slump test is uses for obtain the consistency of concrete mixture.

2. Hardened concrete tests:
The fine concrete mixture such as fly ash concrete (FC) which consists of powder (90% cement+ 10% fly ash), water, coarse aggregate and fine aggregate material uses for concrete test. In this case, the sample concrete is compressed vertically in order to obtain strength, durability and mechanical parameters (Ahmad Zaidi, A., 2010).
In this case, the sample concrete material prepared with 150 x 150 x 150 mm square cube as per BS standard. Firstly, take off the sample concrete cube from the water curing tank. It is require wiping off the sample therefore it will remove additional water from the cubical surface. Place the cube in the compression test machine so that the load applied in normal direction
