Australian Government has been started to make changes in fiscal policy by introducing
new taxes, out of that petroleum resource rent tax in 1987 had given important change to
increase its tax revenue, after that government made more development policy, still now
(PRRT) is considered as one of best resource for the government revenue. In the year
2004, Mineral and Petroleum Resources ministry department investigated about petroleum
and mining department monetary benefits as a result, decided to receive profit-based royalty
in Petroleum Resource Rent Tax (PRRT). During in the year 2010, Government
implemented Resource Super Profits Tax (RSPT) for all non-renewable resources except low
value minerals. In July 2012 Government introduced Mineral Resource Rent Tax (MRRT)
applicable only to coal and iron ore to revised of RSPT.
Government has started to receive strong against from its opposition party at the same time
press has framed as an issue before the public called them to participate in debate via polls
whether mining tax was acceptable or not, recorded the negative and positive response,
fortunately result a
ived with positive response votes higher than negative, even though
press and media shown their against for mining tax, Kevin Rudd who was a prime minister
esigned his job via lost of confidence, followed the by- election minerals industry used
million dollar advertising campaign, involving television, print and radio to vote against
Kevin Rudd government, Government also taken necessary advertising campaign by using
more funds to support mining tax, though Kevin Rudd lost his leadership after that Julia
Gillard who was a deputy prime minster taking charge as prime minister, made the issue
calm down by altering the mine tax procedures.
