Design a linear DC motor for propelling and braking a track-guided vehicle. The vehicle contains a generator to power the electromagnet with current Ie for the generation of the flux density B. The track region carries a current It . Assume that the mass of the vehicle is 10 tons XXXXXXXXXXkg), and it accelerates from 0 to 80 Km/hour in 60 seconds. Consider the total length of the flux path in the magnet to be 8 meter and that the magnet cross section is 1 m2 , and that the air gap is of length 2 cm and its cross section area is twice that of the magnet. Take the track width to be 2 meters. See figure for illustrations.
Find an appropriate values for Ie and It, the number of turns N and the relative permeability of the iron of the magnet. Assume that you have 10 of such magnets inside the locomotive.
