There are four levels of measurement nemali nominal ordinal ratio and interval scale of
measurement. For a particular data the best measure of Central tendency is mode and the
measure of dispersion does not exist. For a variable measured on ratio or ordinal interval scale of
measurement the best measure of Central tendency is based on the shape of the distribution of
the variable.
If the shape of histogram is bell shaped I can say that variable is approximately normally
distributed. For a variable which is normally distributed mean is considered as the best measure
of Central tendency. The standard deviation is considered as a best measure of dispersion. In this
scenario a low value of standard deviation indicates that the mean is reliable.
When data of a variable is skewed or has outliers then median is considered as the best
