Learning objectives: This activity will provide students with opportunities to develop critical skills necessary to correctly interpret and analyse results of field investigations, select the appropriate parameters to create a slope model, demonstrate the ability to evaluate the stability of natural slopes, and skills needed to produce comprehensive and concise reports. Group A: If your family name starts with a letter from A to G. Introduction. The Bang Lang dam is one of the major hydro dams in Thailand. After its completion, the neighboring slopes began to experience some slope stability issues during rainy seasons. The risk analysis indicated that, if the slope failed, it would affect the major road to the dam as well as the irrigation system. To collect more information about the slope conditions, field investigations were performed. The obtained data are presented below in the forms of maps and bore logs. Your task is to analyse the obtained results, draw a cross-section of the slope, and perform slope stability analysis. You also need to compute the safety factor for the following site conditions 1) “dry season”: when the top soil layer is dry, and 2) “rainfall season”: when the top soil layer is saturated (the groundwater level is 0.5 m below the ground surface). You need to present and discuss your findings in the form of a report (max 10 pages, excluding references and appendix).

1.EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
GENERAL
The bang lang dam is one of the major hydro dams in thailand. After its completion, the neighboring slopes began to experience some slope stability issues during rainy seasons. The risk analysis indicated that, if the slope failed, it would affect the major road to the dam as well as the i
igation system.
Field investigations were performed to analyse the slope conditions. Bore log study was conducted at three locations within a length of 298m. The contour map shows the elevations at the investigated locations and the slopes at each sections were identified. The details of are presented in chapter 2 of this report.
Bishop's method of slope stability analysis is used to analyse in both dry and saturated condition. Rock characteristics were derived and computer model is prepared accordingly. A model was developed considering different conditions and failure planes were checked. The inputs of the model and the results for different conditions were explained in detail in chapter 4 of this report
The summary of the results state that, the given cut section a-a’ of about 85m deep, is satisfying the slope stability criteria as per standards. The results of the analysis are represented as an appendix to this report.
2. INTRODUCTION
2.1 PROBLEM
The bang lang dam is one of the major hydro dams in thailand. After its completion, the neighboring slopes began to experience some slope stability issues during rainy seasons. The risk analysis indicated that, if the slope failed, it would affect the major road to the dam as well as the i
igation system.
Objective
To perform slope stability analysis for the given hydro dam and suggest the necessary remedial measures to retain the structure.
the following are the objectives of the analysis
Analyze the obtained results, draw a cross-section of the slope, and perform slope stability analysis.
Compute the safety factor for the following site conditions
1) “dry season”: when the top soil layer is dry, and
2) “rainfall season”: when the top soil layer...
